Balikpapan – PT Mitra Murni Perkasa (MMP), a subsidiary of MMSGI, commemorated National Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Month 2026 with the theme “Building a Professional, Reliable, and Collaborative National OHS Management Ecosystem.” This momentum reflects the company’s commitment to placing occupational safety as the main foundation of operational sustainability, particularly as it enters the transition phase toward the commercial operation of its nickel smelter. In line with the direction of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) at the opening of the 2026 National Mining OHS Month, which emphasized that safety is a strategic industrial investment, MMP continues to strengthen its OHS management system as an inseparable part of productivity, operational reliability, and responsible corporate governance.
As part of that commitment, throughout 2025 MMP successfully achieved its main OHS targets, including maintaining Zero Fatality across all operational areas. The company also recorded significant safe working hours, successfully logging more than 10 million working hours without a Lost Time Injury (LTI). This record reflects the consistent, disciplined, and comprehensive application of safety standards in the smelter environment. With an average of around 3,000 workers and business partners involved throughout 2025, this achievement is proof that the safety culture at MMP continues to be strengthened through active collaboration of all personnel, strict operational supervision, and continuous improvement of the risk management system.
MMP’s commitment to building a professional and reliable OHS ecosystem is reflected not only in company policy but also realized through strengthening a safe work culture, improving personnel competency, and emergency preparedness across all smelter operational areas. This is in line with the company’s efforts to ensure that safety becomes an integral part of long-term business sustainability.
MMP Division Head of Operation Totok Risantono emphasized that OHS management is a strategic investment that supports the company’s future operational reliability. “For MMP, OHS is not merely compliance, but a long-term investment to maintain the sustainability of smelter operations. Strengthening training, work procedures, and the emergency response system is part of our measured steps to create a safe, productive, and competitive work environment,” he explained.
Furthermore, Totok added that the occupational safety achievements attained serve as motivation to continue strengthening safety discipline and leadership across all operational lines. “We continue to strive to maintain our occupational safety achievements, including the zero fatality target, through strengthening a safety leadership culture and procedural discipline across all work areas. National OHS Month is a reminder that every individual has an important role in ensuring operations run safely and reliably,” he said.
As part of strengthening the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) system and operational preparedness, throughout 2025 MMP gradually equipped its emergency response capacity with adequate personnel and supporting facilities. The company has a medical team on standby consisting of one doctor and five paramedics operating in two shifts, and has formed an Emergency Response Team of eight personnel, also divided into two shifts, to ensure readiness in handling emergency conditions in the work area.
In addition to strengthening human resources, MMP also upgraded its supporting facilities through the procurement of one fire truck as well as various medical and emergency equipment relevant to smelter operational needs. To strengthen coordination across stakeholders, MMP has also established cooperation with Basarnas for handling emergencies in water areas, the Balikpapan City BPBD for emergency response on land, and Pertamina Balikpapan Hospital as a referral for further treatment should evacuation or further medical services be required.
Entering 2026, MMP continues that commitment by establishing a number of improvement measures focused on enhancing emergency preparedness. This strengthening includes plans to build a more permanent and representative medical and emergency response room, optimization of all fire hydrant functions and fire prevention systems, procurement of various additional devices to support rapid response, and plans to provide an ambulance car as part of a more integrated emergency evacuation system.
All of these initiatives are reinforced with updates to work procedures in each area, continuous hazard and risk identification, and periodic Occupational Health, Safety, and Environment (OHSE) audits. With a measured and collaborative approach, MMP affirms that OHS management is the main foundation in building safe, reliable, and sustainable smelter operations.
In conjunction with National OHS Month, which took place from 12 January to 12 February 2026, MMP together with its business partners formed a committee and organized various internal activities aimed at strengthening awareness and active participation of personnel through a series of collaborative activities such as SHE campaigns, sports, and blood donation to raise workers’ awareness. This momentum strengthens MMP’s position as a company that prioritizes a safe and sustainable work environment in support of national industrial targets.
