Jakarta – PT Mitra Murni Perkasa (MMP) and Mitsui & Co., Ltd. (Mitsui) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish strategic collaboration in the marketing of high grade nickel matte products, as well as the exploration of potential strategic investment.
Through this MoU, the two companies will explore three strategic points of collaboration, namely product marketing, investment, and long-term business development. Mitsui will lead market development in Japan and support global reach, while MMP brings the strength of an integrated smelter operation designed to meet the needs of the modern battery industry. Combining these capabilities is expected not only to expand market access but also to help understand the evolving needs of battery material customers in a more strategic and responsible manner.
In his remarks, MMP President Director Adhi Dharma Mustopo reaffirmed the company’s commitment to continue contributing to the advancement of national nickel downstreaming.
“Today’s signing marks the beginning of a collaboration built on shared ambition, trust, and clear objectives. Through this cooperation, we hope to strengthen Indonesia’s position in the global high grade nickel matte supply chain while supporting the national downstreaming agenda.”
Adhi continued, “As a 100% domestically-owned (PMDN) company, MMP through this collaboration is committed to ensuring that Indonesia’s natural resources deliver meaningful value for the community and the economy. Together with Mitsui, we are optimistic that we can drive sustainable growth and long-term benefits for all stakeholders.”
As part of this cooperation, Mitsui also expressed its support and perspective on the strategic opportunities in Indonesia’s nickel downstreaming sector. Akinobu Hashimoto, General Manager of the New Metals & Aluminium Division, Mitsui & Co., Ltd., said, “We are very pleased to begin this collaboration with MMP, a company that shares a similar vision on sustainable growth and responsible resource development. Indonesia plays an important role in the global energy transition, and MMP’s capabilities make it a strong partner for Mitsui.”
He added, “By combining Mitsui’s global marketing network and investment experience with MMP’s operational strength, we hope to create added value in the nickel downstreaming sector and the battery ecosystem for electric vehicles,” he said.
Through this partnership, MMP and Mitsui will combine their respective strengths to position MMP’s high-grade nickel matte as a competitive and sustainable choice for the electric vehicle battery ecosystem and global industry. Mitsui’s extensive commercial network, together with MMP’s operational capabilities, will open greater market access and support the growing demand for battery raw material supply chains. Both companies share the belief that nickel smelting in Indonesia can be carried out responsibly, delivering economic value for the nation and helping drive a cleaner energy transition.
